Pipe Maker: Joseph Moraniec
I bought my first pipe (a Calebresi billiard) in 1999. After pairing it with the local shop's best selling house blend, "Haymarket", I was hooked. I started collecting estate pipes; Charatan and Dunhill, especially. Many of my pipes came from my local shop - Hill & Hill Tobacconist in Grosse Pointe, MI. I also made several trips in those days to Smoker's Haven in Columbus, OH to buy their famous English blends and to meet the infamous Sailorman Jack, who was at one time the President of the New York Pipe Club.
I've been making pipes since 2014. My background as a hairdresser has helped my pipe making, as the creativity and detailed work are similar. I strive to make pipes that are comfortable in the mouth and well-engineered - with a great draw. For me, pipemaking is therapy from a stressful week. Finishing a piece gives me a huge sense of accomplishment. I know that I'll keep making pipes as long as I can!
